OLD HOUSE SECTION
Old House Section is a performative sketch experiment that extended the Old House project. A section through the old house, extending to the abyssal depths of the Kaikōura canyon, was sketched by seven drawers. Sketchers responded to multiple moving marks: abstract projections of seismic dynamics and water pressure, shadowing from ‘sketch creatures’ from the Old House experiment, and live re-projections of drawers’ sketching. The experiment attempted to intra-act personal and planetary worlds by engaging the performative gestures of both, in a co-created sectional sketch.

INSTALLATION

Old House Performative Section is part of the Expanded Drawing project, transdisciplinary research discovering ways of capturing intangible presences in natural phenomena. The research seeks to discover how architecture can be ‘made together’, drawn not just by humans but also planetary authors, crossing personal, human gestures with unpredictable planetary actions, such as vast seismic events.
The installation explored the influence of multiple entities on the sketch: material, human and imagined more-than-human.
