OLD HOUSE

Old House is a multi-media sketch installation. It sketches personal and planetary dynamics within the context of a small, run-down family house, sitting just at the edge of a vast reef and submarine canyon system, in Kaikōura, Aotearoa, New Zealand.

INSTALLATION

The little Kaikōura house is sketched in several ways, to allow drawer, house and its reef context to be in open conversation. Sketch creatures are rapidly drawn in three-dimensions, using wire, materials from the house, rocks collected over the years, old photographs, surface rubbings.

Through its sketching, the little house by the edge of the sea begins to speak of an architecture which is unruly, inter-connected, and not so easily known.

The installation uses the ‘sketch creatures’ at various scales, using materials from the house and reef as sculptural entities, a VR sketch environment, projection and sound.
